From the President's Desk
- Two GPSO Staff Positions are open. The applications for Communications Coordinator and Community Development Coordinator are due on April 11th and can be found posted below
- We have collaborated with the Office of International Services to increase the presence of GPSO at international student orientation.
- The President’s Office is researching how to better get student input at the university level. We have met to discuss possible options for increased involvement.
- The Bloomington Faculty Council heard a student presentation about Open Source textbooks. GPSO is in contact with this student organization to consider our level of support.

RIGHT NOW - Grad House Café
Shake off those lingering chills at the next GPSO Grad House Café! Stop by the Grad House between 8:30 and 10:30am today for FREE coffee and Bloomington Bagels.
Please save a tree and bring a mug, if possible.

Monday, April 14, 7-10pm - Martini Monday
Monday night kicks off our Grad Appreciation Week celebration, and we are starting things off with a relaxing evening of drinks and hors d'oeuvres. Don your swanky attire and join your fellow grad students for a elegant evening of 1/2 priced martinis at Serendipity Martini Bar! Formal wear is encouraged, but not required.
Thursday, April 17, 8pm - Movie Night: American Hustle
The Whittenberger Auditorium in the Indiana Memorial Union has reserved space for the graduate students for a viewing of "American Hustle" starring Jennifer Lawrence, Christian Bale, and others. Come enjoy a great movie and some classic concessions provided by the GPSO. The movie starts at 8:00, but come early to find a seat and grab your refreshments!
Friday, April 18, 6-9pm - Grad Bash
Join your fellow grad students for a night of music, food, and fun! There will be live music, tasty libations, and delicious food provided by FARM.
Saturday, April 19, 7pm - Night at the Opera
Join the GPSO and the Jacobs School opera program for a performance of Giuseppe Verdi's "La Traviata". The show stars at 8:00 PM, but there will be a pre-concert reception starting at 7:00 PM with snacks and drinks and information about the opera. Student tickets are only $10!
As was the case with the last opera event, please email gpsopr@indiana.edu to reserve your tickets. Tickets must be paid for in cash or check before the night of the opera.
Fun Fact: The movie, "Moulin Rouge" was loosely modeled after "La Traviata".

Deadline Extended: GPSO Faculty Mentor Award
GPSO encourages all graduate and professional students to give their support to faculty members that they feel deserve special recognition for exemplary behavior by nominating them for the GPSO Faculty Mentor Award.
Guidelines
- Faculty must be current or have retired within the current academic year.
- Student must be current or have graduated within the last year
- The award encompasses tenured and non-tenured faculty, including lecturers and adjuncts. Faculty status is not factored into the committee’s decision.
- This is an award from the Graduate Student body of the IU Bloomington campus: candidates nominated must be faculty of the IU Bloomington campus.
- The winners will be determined by the Awards Committee.
- All nominated faculty will be issued a certificate of nomination from the GPSO.
- Any student is free to nominate as many people as they would like. The quantity of letters received for a particular faculty member does not increase or decrease their chances of being selected.
- Letters will be read only for the purpose of the GPSO Faculty Mentor Award and will not be disseminated for general access.
- Letters should be no longer than 300 words.

Event: SustainIU Week
SustainIU Week 2014 is almost here! There are a lot of exciting events that will take place from Saturday, April 5th to Saturday, April 12th. We are thrilled to make this year's SustainIU Week a success and highly encourage all members to attend as many events as they can. Spread the word and get excited for a week of celebrating sustainability at Indiana University!

Information Session: Graduate Fellowship and Funding Resources
Learn about campus resources for finding scholarships and fellowships for domestic and international study, research and experiential activities and tips on preparing a competitive application. Awards for graduate students that will be highlighted include Fulbright, Fulbright Hays, Boren Fellowships and Critical Language Scholarships.
Three identical presentations throughout April (dates and times below). All of them will be held in the Great Room of the Hutton Honors College located at the corner of 7th St. and Woodlawn.

- April 6, 4pm: University Singers present Haydn's "Mass in the Time of War" (200 S Jordan Ave, free)
