IU Cinema Lecture: Beth B - Psychotic to Erotic

Beth B exploded onto the New York underground scene in the late ‘70s, after receiving her BFA from the School of Visual Arts in 1977, creating installation art works and directing Super-8 films.

Controversial and political in approach and content, these breakthrough films, such as Black Box, Vortex, and The Offenders, were shown at Max’s Kansas City, CBGB’s and the Film Forum. These and more recent films have also been shown at, and acquired by, the Whitney Museum and MoMA. Her early films, along with those of Jim Jarmusch and Amos Poe, are the focus of a new documentary, Blank City. Her films and artwork have been the subjects of several books and other documentaries, including The Cinema of Transgression; Art, Performance, Media; and No Wave: Underground 80. Beth B’s career has been characterized by work that challenges society’s conventions, and that focuses on recasting and redefining images of the female and male mind and body.

Good Kids is the first commissioned work by the Big Ten Universities' New Play Consortium.

Friday, Feb. 6, 5:30 p.m. -- The Theatre Circle Lecture, "Sexual Violence Support Networks," will feature a panel of representatives from the Dean of Students Office, Student Health Services, and Middle Way House.

Tuesday, Feb. 10, after the 7:30 p.m. performance -- "The Law and Order of Sexual Violence" discussion will feature IU campus chief of police Laury Flint, Sgt. Becky Schmuhl of the IU campus police, Bloomington chief of police Michael Diekhoff, and Monroe County Circuit Court judge Mary Ellen Diekhoff.

Wednesday, Feb. 11, after the 7:30 p.m. performance – "Sexual Violence and Online/Social Media Ethics" will feature Sandra Kuebler, professor of computational linguistics, and a representative from the Office of Student Ethics.

New in the Galleries: Nature’s Small Wonders: Photographs by Ansel Adams

America’s most famous nature photographer, Adams was also an ardent conservationist who served on the board of directors for the Sierra Club for thirty-seven years and was active in the Wilderness Society. He used his dramatic black-and-white photographs to encourage the preservation of America’s natural wonders, particularly those found in the U.S. National Parks.
This installation is on view from January 13 through May 24, 2015, in the Gallery of the Art of the Western World, Doris Steinmetz Kellett Endowed Gallery of Twentieth-Century Art. It is presented in conjunction with the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Sycamore Land Trust, whose mission is to protect the beautiful natural and agricultural landscape of southern Indiana.

What happens when you fall in love with a serial killer?
This gritty and sexy musical thriller follows the story of Daisy Harris, a young woman stuck in a small town with a dead-end job, an overbearing mother, and a troubled past. Desperate to escape but with nowhere to go, Daisy looks for anything to break the monotony of her meaningless life. She meets charming and cryptic Max, just as a string of unexplained murders rocks the town. As the community continues to be plagued by gruesome killings, the relationship formed between the two not only reveals the atrocities of Daisy's past, but foreshadows the darkness that is to come.

Genre: Soul rock Similar to: Lettuce, Dumpstaphunk, Disco Biscuits The Main Squeeze is a raging funk experience born within the thriving live music scene of Bloomington, Indiana. Since coming together in late 2009 The Squeeze have managed to establish a unique sound and identity in a short period of time. Their first studio offering entitled "First Drops," is a seven song EP released in early 2011 which showcases the broad range of styles and influences that each member brings to the table; from rock to jazz, funk to R&B, and hip-hop to electro. Their live performances, which fuse soulful vocals, intricate jams, tight grooves, and ripping solos have helped them develop a dedicated and rapidly growing fan base in the Midwest and the East Coast earning them slots at music festivals such as Summer Camp, Equifunk, Big Pig, and GlowFest. Their unique ability to tackle and funkify such a wide variety of music makes each show a unique experience in its own right. Their self-titled LP was dropped in June of 2012. If you've ever wondered whether the juice is worth the squeeze, you should look no further.

Jared's career has continued to grow since his amazing 2013 Comedy Attic debut, adding appearances on Comedy Central's The Meltdown, TBS' The Pete Holmes Show and his weekly appearnces on VH1's Best Week Ever to go along with his half hour Comedy Central special and role as a delegate on Comedy Central's Indecision 2012. Jared's debut album, "My Brave Battle," on the prestigous A Special Thing Records was one of 2014's best reviewed comedy albums.
